Salem Hospital has undergone several expansions and upgrades over the years. In 1999, the hospital purchased Valley Community Hospital (now known as West Valley Hospital) in neighbouring Dallas. Salem Hospital continued its expansion with the addition of a new emergency room in 2003. In the same year, a new five-story building was constructed to house infant, child, and pregnancy services. Construction of a new seven-story, 347,700-square-foot building began in 2006 and was completed in 2009. This new tower replaced approximately half of the existing hospital beds and included three sky bridges connecting to other buildings on the hospital campus.
As of 2018, Salem Hospital operated a range of centres, including a rehabilitation centre, an urgent care centre, an MRI facility, and an outpatient centre. It is designated as a Level II trauma centre by the Oregon Department of Human Services and is one of five Oregon hospitals with Magnet Recognition Program certification for nursing excellence.
