IU Health LifeLine is a quality medical transport program that has been serving Indiana for over 40 years. It is the oldest air ambulance in Indiana, with its first mission taking place in July 1979. The program has grown significantly since its inception, now including five helicopters, six critical care bases, 10 ALS/BLS bases, five 911 bases, six mobile intensive care units, 20 ambulances, and an expansive operations, communications, and education facility.
IU Health LifeLine is operated by Metro Aviation, Inc. and serves customers in Indiana, Western Ohio, and Eastern Illinois. With six critical care bases located throughout Indiana, the program can provide critical care transport at a moment's notice. The helicopters used by IU Health LifeLine are Airbus EC145s, one of the most advanced helicopters used for air medical transport in the nation.
