CoxHealth's insurance network status
The CoxHealth Network is a dedicated team that brings together physicians, providers, insurance companies, and employer groups for commercial insurance contracting. The network comprises more than 1,500 physicians and numerous hospital providers across a 20-county area.

CoxHealth has a rich history of delivering extensive resources, compassion, and expertise to support the healthcare needs of the Ozarks. The story of CoxHealth began more than a century ago, in 1906, with the generous donation of a Springfield woman, Ellen Burge, who contributed her duplex on Jefferson Avenue to be used as a Methodist hospital. Named the Burge Deaconess Hospital, it opened its doors on Thanksgiving Day in 1906 and quickly began serving patients to its full capacity.
Ellen Burge remained dedicated to the hospital's leadership for the rest of her life. Maude Luckey Conkling became the first hospital superintendent, serving until 1947. The hospital expanded with the Burge Hospital School for Nurses, which later became Cox College, a private college offering degrees and certificates in nursing and other healthcare-related fields. The hospital also grew to include an additional building.
However, by 1948, the hospital faced financial difficulties and was on the brink of closure. Local businessman and community leader Lester E. Cox stepped in, sharing his belief in the power of money to provide opportunities and bring happiness to others. With his involvement, the hospital flourished once more.
Over the years, CoxHealth has expanded significantly. From a single campus in North Springfield, it now encompasses hospitals in South Springfield, Branson, Monett, and Lamar, with over 100 clinic locations and six hospitals offering 1,074 licensed beds. CoxHealth employs over 14,000 dedicated staff, including 554 physicians and 386 nurse practitioners and physician assistants, serving 25 counties across the region.
CoxHealth continues to be a leader in healthcare, providing a wide range of services, including 24/7 emergency care, advanced surgical procedures, compassionate maternity services, and specialized pediatric care.
