Sir Ganga Ram Hospital is a private, for-profit hospital in Rajendra Nagar, Delhi, that was founded in Lahore in 1921 and re-established in Delhi in 1951.

The original hospital in Lahore, British India (now Pakistan) was founded by Sir Ganga Ram (1851-1927) in 1921. Sir Ganga Ram's son, Sevak Ram, envisioned a hospital that would serve the community in Lahore. Sevak Ram constructed a 700-bed hospital in the heart of Lahore and established the Balak Ram Medical College next to it. Following the partition, the medical college was renamed after Fatima Jinnah by the Government of Pakistan, but the hospital retained its original name at the local community's request.

After the partition of India, Sir Ganga Ram's grandson-in-law, Shri Dharma Vira, played a crucial role in rehabilitating refugees from Pakistan. In 1948, he convinced the Indian government to allocate 11 acres of land in Karol Bagh, a settlement area for refugees, to build a hospital. The foundation of the new hospital was laid in April 1951 by the then-Prime Minister of India, Shri Jawahar Lal Nehru, under Dharma Vira's auspices. The hospital was inaugurated by Nehru in April 1954, starting with 40 beds, an operation theatre, and basic infrastructure.

Over the years, the hospital has expanded its services and introduced advanced facilities, including departments for Minimal Access Surgery, Academics, Genetic Medicine, Surgical Gastroenterology, Sleep Medicine, Medical Oncology, Endocrinology, and more. The hospital also initiated the private sector's first kidney transplant program and established the Mahajan Imaging Diagnostics Centre. Controversies: In 2021, the Delhi government issued a notice to the hospital for allegedly violating norms regarding the treatment of economically weaker patients

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital is a private hospital in Rajendra Nagar, Delhi. It was founded in 1921 in Lahore, British India (now Pakistan) by Sir Ganga Ram. The hospital was later shifted to Delhi and inaugurated in April 1951 by Prime Minister of India Shri Jawahar Lal Nehru.

In October 2021, the Delhi government issued a show-cause notice to the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) for allegedly violating norms regarding the treatment of economically weaker patients. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) received a complaint that the hospital was not admitting patients from the economically weaker section (EWS) despite 68 beds being earmarked for such patients, 95% of which were lying vacant. The hospital is required to earmark 10% of its beds and 25% of its outpatient clinic for free treatment for poor patients as it received land from the Delhi government at a concessional rate.

Karol Bagh MLA Vishesh Ravi wrote to the DGHS, bringing this issue to their attention. Advocate Ashok Agarwal, who is part of the high-court-appointed monitoring committee on this subject, also stated that until a few years ago, the hospital had an excellent track record when it came to treating EWS patients. However, things changed, and the hospital started creating multiple hurdles for EWS patients, taking a long time to verify their status and complete the necessary documentation.

Officials from the hospital denied the allegations, stating that they were replying to the issues raised and hoped that any misunderstandings would be resolved soon. Dr DS Rana, Chairperson of the Board of Management, also mentioned that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the hospital provided beds to anyone who came, irrespective of whether they belonged to the EWS category or not. Despite the disruptions, any EWS patient with COVID-19 received free treatment as per the mandate.
