Designed by the coalition of architects Allied Architects Association, its Art-Deco construction earned it the nickname "The Great Stone Mother". It had 3,000 patient beds.
The LAC+USC Women's and Children's Hospital, located at 1240 N. Mission Road, Los Angeles, CA 90033, has been closed for services for a long time. The demolition of the hospital includes the removal of content and debris, hazardous material abatement, and the structural demolition of the building. The project also includes the demolition of other structures on the site, including trailers, the cooling tower/air compressor unit, and a storage building. The project will cost $28.9 million, with $23.9 million going towards construction.
The demolition will make way for the construction of a new healthcare campus, including the Restorative Care Village, a facility designed to serve the county's most vulnerable populations, including the homeless, those coming out of county jail, or those on juvenile probation.
