Dr Trehan also accused Raman Sharma of being a known extortionist and of harassing the hospital with frivolous complaints during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these claims, the ED registered a criminal case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and named all 16 accused mentioned in the Gurugram Police FIR.

In addition to the money laundering case, Medanta Hospital has faced other controversies, including allegations of overcharging and medical negligence. In 2018, a report in The Wire mentioned that the hospital had been accused of overcharging and medical negligence in the case of a deceased boy.
