Medical City Dallas Hospital is located at 7777 Forest Lane, Dallas, Texas, and opened in 1974
Medical City Dallas Hospital is a large hospital located at 7777 Forest Lane, just west of North Central Expressway (US 75), in north Dallas, Texas, United States. The hospital first opened its doors to the community on October 2, 1974, after Dr Frank Seay cut the ribbon. Developer Trammell Crow and his partners chose this location because, in 1972, 85% of all MDs in Dallas County lived within a 15-minute drive of the new complex.
The hospital has expanded significantly since its opening. The initial construction was funded entirely by private capital. A second phase of construction began in 1977, enabling the physician-tenant population to double through the addition of a second patient tower and two physician office buildings. In the early 1980s, Medical City Dallas joined twelve other private hospitals in North Texas in requesting to participate in a tax-exempt bond program to finance the purchase of medical equipment. This caused controversy, as administrators in public hospitals objected to the participation of private hospitals that care for few or no charity patients.
The hospital complex was home to Dallas' first Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), a set-fee medical program established through a joint venture between the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program and Prudential Insurance Company of America. In the early 1990s, construction began on a fourth building and second patient tower, CareTower D, which opened in 1995. The hospital has continued to expand over the years, with additional floors and buildings being added to accommodate new services and specialties.
Today, Medical City Dallas is an award-winning, 899-bed acute care hospital with a medical team of more than 1,500 providers, many of whom are top experts in their fields. The hospital offers almost 100 specialties, including world-class programs for heart and vascular, brain and spine, women's services, orthopaedics, transplant, cancer, bariatrics, and robotic surgery. It is recognised for its leading-edge medical facilities and commitment to excellence in patient care.
