Advocate Lutheran General Hospital
ALGH was founded in 1897 as Norwegian Lutheran Deaconess Hospital, with just 25 beds. The hospital operated from a rented building in Humboldt Park for five years before moving to a new building in 1902. Lutheran Deaconess Hospital grew at this location, adding medical wings and a nursing school. In 1959, Lutheran General Hospital opened at its current location in Park Ridge, with 326 beds. In 1969, the hospital closed, and operations and staff were transitioned to the newly established Lutheran General Hospital. In 1976, a residency training program for internal medicine was established, and in 1986, the hospital was designated a Level 1 trauma centre.
