Good Samaritan Hospital, a member of TriHealth, is the oldest and largest private teaching hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. It first opened in 1852 as a 21-bed hospital under the sponsorship of the Sisters of Charity. The hospital was originally named St. John's Hotel for Invalids and was the first private hospital in the city.
During the Civil War, the hospital served as a military hospital for Cincinnati, initially run by volunteers and donations. However, as the war dragged on, it came under the control of the Army Medical Department. After the war, in 1866, the hospital was purchased by Joseph C.
