Learn about Camp Lejeune health benefits
If you are a veteran or a family member who served on active duty or resided at Camp Lejeune for 30 days or more between August 1, 1953, and December 31, 1987, you may be eligible for health benefits. These benefits are related to the water contamination that occurred at Camp Lejeune during this time period.
Veterans who meet the above criteria and have one of the 15-16 covered health conditions presumed to be related to exposure are eligible for cost-free health care for those conditions. For other health conditions, veterans will have a co-pay, depending on income and health eligibility priority category. To receive these benefits, veterans must not have received a dishonorable discharge when they separated from the military.
Family members of veterans who resided at Camp Lejeune during the qualifying period are eligible for reimbursement of out-of-pocket medical expenses related to the 16 covered health conditions. VA can only pay treatment costs that remain after payment from other health plans. Family members must apply for and be approved for benefits under current law.
To apply for benefits, veterans and family members must provide documentation proving they lived at Camp Lejeune for at least 30 days during the qualifying period. This can include utility bills, base housing records, military orders, or tax forms.
