In 1914, Commodore Elias C. Benedict, a town resident, offered partial financing for a new hospital building on Perryridge Road. The previous location was considered inadequate by many, and the new building was initially met with public resistance due to its size. However, with the support of Benedict's lawyer and close friend of hospital founder Dr. Fritz Carleton Hyde, the project moved forward.
