It was the first in the area to offer 24-hour emergency room services. Within its first decade, Marymount doubled its bed count to 279 and expanded its clinical services. In 1959, Saint Joseph's Teaching Annex was added to accommodate the School of Practical Nursing, established in 1960. By the mid-1960s, the hospital offered emergency, x-ray, and laboratory services, in addition to basic medical services.
